DI IORIO (FMPI CAMPANIA): SMALL BUSINESS WORLD IS AT THE END OF ITS ROPE, BAKERS ARE AT THE END OF THEIR ROPE! BREAD WILL SKYROCKET TO MORE THAN 4 EUROS PER KILO
“The world of Small Businesses is on its knees due to high energy prices and rising inflation, it is unable to overcome the severe economic and market crisis because the necessary structural interventions are lacking. In particular, bakers in Campania are at the brink and will be forced to raise the cost of bread to more than 4 euros per kilo.”
This was stated by the Campania Regional Secretary of the Federation of Small Businesses, Nicola Di Iorio, at the conclusion of a meeting with a group of small business bakers who formed FMPI/Bakers.
“Bread,” Di Iorio continued, “is obviously made from flour, and wheat is rising more and more because of international speculation and the war in Ukraine. Kneading flour and baking bread requires mixers and ovens powered by electricity, and the cost of bills is flying higher and higher. Many bakers are forced, unfortunately, to resort to usury by getting deeper and deeper into debt. The situation is also highly alarming socially.”
For Di Iorio, “it is urgent that the government and the regions establish a fund to set aside the necessary resources to lower the price of bread and support production companies, an absolutely primary food commodity that is indispensable on our tables,” concluded the FMPI secretary.
